About Emily

I'm a former tech manager who chose the outside—and wrote the books on preparing for and living it. I spent nine years inside corporate tech (my third career), left voluntarily in 2022, and have been living the uncertainty everyone's bracing for.

I've navigated scrappy income, nontraditional benefits, and the very real question of "how long can I make this last?" And I've written two books for knowledge workers about autonomy, money, and building a meaningful life that doesn't depend entirely on a job.

That combination — financial coaching background, lived experience outside corporate safety, and an author's ability to reframe what's possible—is what makes this different from anything else you could do right now.

Professional Emily with a fancy-schmancy tech manager job and a burgeoning financial coaching business on the side.

Exploring Emily in Greece, four months out of corporate. Feeling wetter and more alive than I'd felt in years. Becoming a writer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does this take?

At that first meeting, we'll schedule your second session, ideally held ~one week later. The point is to get you peace of mind and a plan you love ASAP so you can start making that plan happen.

For those who are motivated to start sooner and will have their prep work completed sooner, you are welcome to reach out directly if you'd like a spot sooner than I'm available.

What if I'm not sure I'm ready?

If you're willing to look at your money honestly (even if it's scary), you're ready. This experience is designed to be compassionate and judgment-free; clients find it a huge relief to get a warm, external perspective, and ideas on their cash-flow and money/life possibilities.

What if my situation is really complicated?

That's okay, and will be an exciting opportunity to help you untangle it! If it's felt complicated for you for a long time, you'll love having some compassionate help and fresh eyes. Build Your Runway is designed to handle complexity and give you clarity no matter where you're starting from.

Do we set up a budget/are these budgeting sessions?

Think of Build the Runway as creating the critical blueprint for your money and what you want it to do. We look at your spending together, talk about priorities, and map paths to your immediate goals—building more runway, seeing how long your existing runway will last, etc.

I'll give you next steps for habits and tools to help you organize your spending according to your plan. But the actual data entry and tool setup is on you. Our time together is for the strategic work—the seeing, the planning, the really important "do I like the life I'm buying?" conversations that make a budget finally work.

What if I know I want to work 1:1 with you for an extended chapter?

I hear you, and I've totally honored by that interest. Build Your Runway is the only way I work 1:1 with individuals when it comes to money. At the end of our second session, I provide a robust guide of recommendations and resources for you to be wildly successful on your own.

“Essential preparation for AI job disruption and prioritizing your dreams...”

Maybe you feel stuck in a “comfortable” life. Maybe you want to create financial runway for your dreams or a buffer between you and AI job loss. Maybe you just want to feel more peace and control.

Money and our relationship with it has this sneaky way of affecting everything else, so even if we start with money, Build the Runway is about so much more than just dollars. It's life design at its best.

As an author (Dear Fellow Spender and Dear Fellow Dreamer) who's really lived this stuff, it's my privilege to help you get focused and on-purpose in your cash flow so you like the life you're buying, and create options and peace of mind.
